Herkimer Diamond: crystal

This is a good sized twinned Herkimer Diamond crystal. It has an imperfect termination at one end, which has a large key indentation to one face and pitting to another, showing where it became detached from its groundmass. There is some interesting layering on the main face that remains clean and intact. The other termination is twinned, with elestial aspects suggesting that this may have grown into a cluster given time. The smaller of the two terminations has been slightly damaged during extraction, and so is incomplete; the other larger one is in fair condition however. There are a few surface deposits of groundmass, and some internal veiling and black inclusions of anthraxolite. The centre of the crystal is slightly milky, although the outer aspects are nice and clear.
