Blue Quartz: crystal cluster - Flower

This rare specimen of Blue Quartz has grown in a radiating flat cluster of very fine double terminated points. The colour is a deep indigo-blue throughout most of the specimen, with a few areas that are more clear. Close examination suggests the blue colour is most likely to derive from indigo tourmaline (indicolite), although there are also some greenish deposits of what looks like copper on the underside of the specimen, which may also point to the exact nature of the inclusions. Both sides also show other crystalline deposits that look to be cubic in nature: these are crusted with creamy-white deposits of what looks like dolomite, making it hard to define precisely what they are. In all a very interesting piece!
